About this course
Disenfranchised grief—grief that is not openly acknowledged, socially supported, or publicly mourned—has gained renewed visibility during recent global crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, the phenomenon itself is not new. For decades, grief counselors and researchers have explored the deep emotional toll this form of grief can take when one's loss is invalidated or minimized by others.
This continuing education webinar will equip mental health professionals with a deeper understanding of disenfranchised grief in its many forms, whether stemming from death-related losses or significant non-death life losses, such as job loss, estrangement, or stigmatized relationships. Through case examples and practical strategies, attendees will gain tools to recognize disenfranchised grief in diverse populations and to create safe, affirming spaces for healing.
This training is ideal for licensed counselors, social workers, psychologists, and other mental health professionals seeking to expand their competence in grief work, especially in working with marginalized and underserved clients.
