A.C.E.ing Ethics: Ethical Considerations Relating to Adverse Childhood Experiences

CE Hours 3

About this live event

As trauma-informed care becomes a foundational approach in mental health and human services, the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) framework has gained significant traction. ACE assessments offer a window into understanding early adversity and its long-term effects—but with their increasing use comes a growing need for ethical discernment. This continuing education webinar explores the intent, usage, and implications of ACE assessments through an ethical lens. Mental health professionals will receive a foundational understanding of Adverse Childhood Experiences, while critically examining the challenges and responsibilities involved in ACE assessment. Participants will explore how ACE assessments intersect with core ethical principles such as informed consent, client autonomy, cultural humility, and the potential for harm through labeling or retraumatization. Supported by case-based discussion and practical analysis, this webinar will guide clinicians in making ethically informed decisions when incorporating ACE tools into clinical and community-based work.
