There are over 570 unique tribal nations in the United States, each with its own cultural traditions, histories, and approaches to grief and healing. As mental health practitioners, it is essential to recognize this diversity and engage in culturally responsive, trauma-informed care when working with Native American communities.
This continuing education webinar provides foundational knowledge to empower professionals working with Indigenous populations in the U.S. Participants will explore Indigenous perspectives on grief, the impact of historical and intergenerational trauma, and barriers to accessing mental health services. The training will also highlight the strengths of tribal systems, culturally grounded practices, and current, integrated therapeutic interventions.
Facilitated by Indigenous educators and clinicians, this training invites professionals to decolonize conventional models of grief and loss while deepening their understanding of how to effectively and respectfully support Native clients through complex experiences of mourning and trauma.
